A robot that holds an object like a chameleon

Inspired by the ability of the chameleon to catch its prey by surrounding them with its tongue, the German company Festo, together with the University of Oslo, has developed a silicone robotic arm that can fit the shape of objects to move them. It was designed as part of the Bionic Learning Network, a joint operation between Festo and leading universities to develop technologies for the Factories of the Future.
